"Twilight": How the visual image of Bella and Edward was created. How to Dress Like Bella Swan Bella Swan's Twilight Clothes

Twilight fans have a lot of questions about the clothing in the film. Now that the DVD is available and we can see everything in more detail, we went straight to the source - the film's costume designer Wendy Chuck - to understand what was on her mind.

BELLA'S CLOTHES

“I wanted Bella's (Kristen Stewart) clothing to be different from the youth of Forks because she moved from Arizona and was an outsider,” explains Twilight costume designer Wendy Chuck. “Most of her clothes are warm earth colors with a splash of southwestern elements.” Being the new girl at school wasn't the only obstacle Bella had to face: "Coming from a warm, sunny climate to gloomy, rainy Forks, we wanted Bella to be unprepared for the cold and rain." “That’s why,” Chuck explains, “Bella starts wearing a coat towards the end of the film.”

EDWARD'S CLOTHES

To dress Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) as the teen idol Stephenie Meyer portrayed him as, Chuck says they looked to the style of early 19th century royalty: "His name represents his look, which I think signifies the era of English Edwardian kings. He is the epitome of an Edwardian gentleman - very decent, well mannered and charming." But not all of his clothes were inspired by history. As Chuck points out, “He wears not only early 20th century lace-ups, but also modern sportswear.”

EDWARD'S COAT

“Everyone wants to know where this coat comes from!” exclaims the costume designer. Unfortunately, it is the only one of its kind (more precisely, almost the only one - 4 copies were sewn for filming) which Chuck herself developed after she did not find the ideal option. “We needed a certain size and I couldn’t find the right shade of gray anywhere,” she recalls. “Catherine Hardwicke is very sensitive to characters and everything that helps reveal them, even if it’s the texture of a fabric or color.” After trying on 20 samples, Chuck chose one from Mood Fabrics and, based on it, compiled a final version from different styles. The result is a "classic shape with a modern twist."

BELLA'S BROWN SWEATSHIRT

During the central scene in the parking lot, Bella is wearing a Nordstrom sweatshirt (Rubbish brand) and Ruth Cross mittens—Chuck made a conscious decision not to use designer brands: “I always try to dress characters based on their personalities rather than fashion. It's easy to overdo brands, and I felt Bella needed to be especially grounded in the real world."

BELLA'S CREAM THERMAL JACKET

Shooting in Washington during the winter months means you have to deal with the cold, so Bella had a lot of layers underneath her brown sweatshirt, including this cardigan. The Curious Gypsy Thermal Jacket has thumbholes on the sleeves, making it "a little quirky and special," Chuck says.

BELLA'S BLUE JACKET

The Jack BB Dakota cargo jacket wasn't actually supposed to be used in Twilight. (Cargo style implies the presence of large patch pockets). “I was planning on using a brown sweatshirt for this scene, but the director of photography couldn’t stand the fact that the jacket and hair were the same color and said it blended in,” says Chuck, who had to run to the store at the last minute to find a replacement. “I brought the jacket to the set literally before the cameras turned on. Then Katherine said “Wendy saved the day!” And I became a hero." Good news for fans. Due to its wild popularity, this jacket will be re-released in July for $84.

BELLA'S ACCESSORIES

As Bella's feelings for Edward change, eagle-eyed viewers may notice her wardrobe changing: "Her style changes from tomboyish to more feminine," Chuck says. “But since Bella always wears trousers and the style cannot be changed abruptly, we had to look for details that have a slight touch of femininity.” (Specifically this Lucky Brand embroidered top). Bella's accessories have also changed, with a moonstone ring (Chuck says it's the work of the props department), a headband (custom made) and a delicate turquoise bracelet, "something we think her mom gave her," the costume designer adds. who found the original in Los Angeles and prepared six copies to fit Stewart's slender wrist.

CULLEN FAMILY CLOTHING

Chuck had to pay special attention to the clothes of the Cullen family. "I didn't want to use traditional black... I wanted them to feel cold and icy." So she dressed the family in greys, whites and blues, watching carefully to make sure not to overdo it. “The Cullens have great taste and a lot of money. At the same time, I had to root them in the practical world so that when they went to school they could blend in with the rest.”

MORE ABOUT THE CULLENS... AND THAT COAT OF ARMS

Along with her GUESS jacket, Rosalie (Nikki Reed) wears a scarf (Chuck says it's from Forever 21) and a necklace with the Cullen crest created by the props department. “When I first met Katherine, I came up with the idea that the Cullens should have their own crest, which would be reflected in their accessories,” says the costume designer. “It belongs to the Old World.” Alice (Ashley Greene), who also wears a smaller version of the crest around her neck, is wearing a lace cardigan from Anthropologie. “She's quirky and very artistic, so it was important to dress her with layers and textures and show that she wears clothes differently than everyone else.”

BELLA'S BALL DRESS

Knowing that everyone would pay attention to how Bella would look at the ball, Chuck had to choose her clothes very carefully. She cut the vintage bolero, updated it and re-embroidered it. The dress was found almost by accident: “It was a miracle find!” exclaims Chuck, who picked up a silk Max and Cleo dress at the Ross discount store for just $20. (Fun fact: the last two dresses, so that there was spare material for creating a long one. But, as a result, I left the dress in its original form, using the second one as an understudy). “I always say that I broadcast clothes, not necessarily create them - it’s divine how things happen sometimes!”

With amazing eyes and masculine looks? Bella cannot be called a model with an ideal figure. She is a simple girl of short stature with an ordinary appearance. Edward's beloved is the happy owner of delightful ivory skin, which has always been considered a sign of aristocracy. Her face becomes much more expressive if you apply light makeup, however, despite this, she does not like it at all. The image is complemented by wonderful thick brown hair, which takes on a reddish tint in the light, as well as large brown eyes.

A strange charm and cuteness gives the girl a sweet expression on her face, which always fully reflects her thoughts, feelings and emotions. Her eyes are not capable of lying - because Bella is very sincere and somewhat shy.

Bella looks more mature, despite her 17 years. She is very caring and understanding, which can be clearly seen in her relationship with her parents. The owner of a rich inner world, she attracts young people with her sincerity and responsibility.

Many of those who love the movie "Twilight" dream of becoming like Bella and finding themselves the perfect guy, like Edward Cullen. What is needed for this?

Character

You need to be confident and have good self-esteem. Bella is not one of those girls who is obsessed with her appearance and wardrobe. And this requires courage and confidence in your own good taste.

There is no need to wear bright makeup: no eye shadows or mascara in flashy shades, foundations or decorative cosmetics. Naturalness is above all. The maximum you can afford is powder that will rid your skin of oily shine, lipstick in soft colors and brownish shadows.

Bella's hair falls over her shoulders in large curls. This effect can be achieved by slightly twisting the strands with large curlers. There is no need to spray them with hairspray or do intricate hairstyles.

A girl who dreams of being like Bella needs to choose the right, natural scent. Edward more than once noticed the pleasant smell emanating from his beloved. There is no need to use strong odors; ideally, even deodorant should not smell. Cleanliness, freshness and a subtle, pleasant aroma are all that is required.

Bella has a terrible habit of biting her nails, which is why they are always short. You shouldn't take it from her, but neatly trimmed nails will only bring you closer to the desired look. A manicure with natural shades will only decorate your hands.

Bella's gait is slightly awkward and funny, but this only gives her grace. To become like this charming girl, you need to learn to keep your back straight and walk naturally, without thinking about how your gait looks from the outside.

Bella always wears only what she likes and what is comfortable. Therefore, you should just be yourself and not wear bright flashy outfits. Jeans, sneakers and simple T-shirts are not only comfortable, but also quite cute.

Being like Bella Swan is not so difficult, you just need to be yourself and not be ashamed of it. Naturalness is the main trump card of the heroine of Twilight.

On the eve of the premiere of the fourth film of the Twilight saga, based on the books of the American writer Stephenie Meyer, blogger and columnist on beintrend.com Yulia Tignyan conducted a detailed analysis of the images of heroes from the legendary Twilight saga. Let's take a closer look and compare what's special about the clothing style of the heroes and actors themselves in real life. Today “under the microscope” are Kristen Stewart and her heroine Bella.

The director of the first part, Catherine Hardwicke, set the right tone for the love story between a vampire and an earthly girl, bringing to the fore, first of all, the feelings and difficult relationships of the main characters, which ensured further success of the entire project in advance. Of course, young and beautiful heroes in themselves are already a win-win trend that never goes out of fashion. And skillful direction, script, the incredibly beautiful nature of Canada, where the filming took place, an excellent selection of soundtracks, and, of course, the appearance of the characters - everything together became the key to global success.

The clothes of the heroes, at first glance, seem quite simple and even ascetic, although at the same time they are not devoid of individuality and give each of the heroes their own style, reflecting their character.

Bella Swan is the main character of the saga, a girl who does not follow fashion trends. She is quite self-sufficient and does not like to attract attention to herself. In clothes, first of all, she likes comfort and discreetness, external paraphernalia interests her little, and if she wears something, be it a ring or a bracelet, then it has a special meaning for her and is an important symbol. In general, accents play an important role in the appearance of the heroine. Her ring on her index finger became a real fashion fetish, a thin black hoop on her head of brown hair, large knitted mittens or a bright crimson hat - all these details gave the image a special chic and made the heroine look real.

In her “worldly” life, actress Kristen Stewart is not far from the Twilight heroine. She, like Bella, is a bit of a rebel by nature, a tomboy and a rocker at heart, which is undoubtedly reflected in the clothes she wears outside of filming and going out. Basically, these are jeans, checkered shirts, T-shirts of loose styles and calm colors, and for shoes - your favorite sneakers. But, despite such a sporty arsenal, the actress always looks stylish, girlishly fragile and feminine.

Even appearances on the red carpet, where the dress code requires you to look luxurious, do not give Kristen a reason to cheat on herself. And if she wears a dress, then it will definitely be a little edgy chic: with cutouts, spikes, khaki, in an ensemble with sneakers or black stilettos. The look is completed by the already famous curls, freely flowing in lyrical disorder or carelessly gathered into a ponytail, as at the last MTV Movie Awards.

Dress just like Bella. Don't be too imaginative. Bella almost always wears long sleeves because she lives in Washington. If you live in a hot climate, choose appropriate clothing that is comfortable for you. Wear short sleeves and blend in with the crowd to avoid being the center of attention. Bella didn't dress up differently every day (remember, Bella only had one skirt). But she was known to wear comfortable, practical clothes. Bella mostly wears dark colors such as black, dark blue, dark green, grey, brown, sometimes white. Dark blue would be a good choice because blue is Bella and Edward's favorite color. It is repeatedly mentioned that blue suits Bella very well.

Consider Bella's outfits in the books. In the books she wears these things:

  • White lace shirt
  • Plain black jacket
  • Blue jacket
  • Jeans
  • Boots
  • Beige sweater
  • Khaki skirt
  • And, of course, her famous prom outfit: a blue frilly dress, Edward flowers in her hair, ribbon sandals and a boot on the other foot.
  • Remember her outfits from the films:

    • Dark long sleeve t-shirts
    • Jeans
    • Black and white sneakers
    • Boots
    • A green dress
  • Think about Bella's overall style. Her image can be called neat and slightly boyish. She wears stripes, likes tartans, her hair is slightly curled, and she wears skinny jeans. Bella often dresses in a "tomboyish" style, but from time to time she also wears beautiful, feminine dresses. Bella loves comfortable shoes and didn't like it when Alice made her wear stilettos for prom.

Dye your hair dark brown (chocolate color) if you like. But if you feel good about your color, don’t dye your hair. You don't have to be an exact copy of Bella. If you have black hair, this is also a good color for your look.

Get your hair done like Bella's. Bella has a very natural beauty. She just combs her hair and that's it, except for special occasions. There are three ways to become like Bella Swan in this matter. A middle part or side bangs are the best recommendations for all three hairstyles.

    • Leave your hair in its natural state. Just comb them and you're done.
    • Your hair should be slightly wavy, like in the movie. There are many ways to do this. You can tie your hair into buns after showering, curl it with a pencil, and then fluff it up with your fingers. You can also use a large curling iron. Choose what works best for your hair. You can also wear a headband like she wears in the movie or just use hair clips.
    1. Straighten your hair. Stephenie Meyer actually describes Bella with straight hair (mentioned on her website), but go with what looks best and suits you best.
  • She also wears a lot of thin hoops in the movies.

Make up like Bella. In the book, Bella doesn't wear makeup. In the film, she wears very natural makeup: foundation, brown eyeshadow and pink lipstick. You can choose cosmetics at your discretion. If you like her looks in the movies, check out the related YouTube videos - like

The journey of the heroine of the cult film "Twilight" Bella Swan from an innocent, clumsy teenage girl to a vampire woman changes her appearance. The heroine's transformation is skillfully supported by the makeup of high-class makeup artists. The viewer is presented with a 17-year-old girl who turns first into a charming young woman and then into a vampire. Three looks – three makeups, smoothly crossing age boundaries.

The image of young Bella, attractive with its innocence, is created using the most natural makeup. The viewer should be left with a feeling of his complete absence.

    How to look younger

Bella Swan's makeup will help with this. The main thing is soft flesh and beige shades and a minimum of color.

    Leather

The naturally pale skin of the heroine suggests the use of a transparent, light texture of foundation. It must be selected according to the color of your own skin. To determine the desired shade, it must be applied to the lower part of the chin. If the color merges with the color of the skin on the neck, then it is chosen correctly.

For problem areas, you can use a corrector. The foundation is applied to a damp sponge and distributed evenly over the face. Can be applied with a foundation brush. To follow the image exactly.

Bella, there is no need to disguise the circles under the eyes; on the contrary, she even emphasized them somewhat.

    Eyes

Properly selected shadows and mascara will add expressiveness and openness to your gaze.

    Shadows

Cream shades are used as a base. The use of honey-brown shadows, shaded from the outer corner of the eye to the inner one, will add expressiveness to the eyes. Cover your upper eyelid up to the crease. If the colors smoothly transition into one another, then everything is done correctly.

Golden shadows are applied under the eyebrows and slightly shaded throughout the upper eyelid. The outer contour is emphasized with brown shadows, and the eye contour with golden brown. The eyeliner also needs to be shaded to soften the excessive sharpness of the line. A powder brow pencil is ideal for this type of eyeliner. To make your look more open, you don’t need to extend the contour to the inner corner. Use a small eyeshadow brush for blending.

    Eyelashes

Black and brown mascara are suitable for eyelashes. You can curl your eyelashes and add a couple of artificial lashes in the outer corners for greater expressiveness. Mascara is applied in 3-4 layers. The first is combed to remove clumps and separate the eyelashes. The main emphasis is on the upper eyelashes. The lower ones only need to be slightly tinted, without adding volume, if they are completely colorless and almost invisible.

    Brows

To create the Bella Swan look, eyebrows need to be emphasized as much as possible. Subtle eye makeup requires special emphasis. To line your eyebrows, you need a shade of eyeshadow that is close to your own hair color. You can mix it with hair wax. Eyebrows are drawn clearly along their contour.

    Blush

It should be discreet and look natural. This will be a pink color with a slight purple tint. This is the color of natural blush, when deoxygenated blood rushes to the face. If the foundation was applied with a brush, you can also apply blush without removing the remaining cream from it. This method will make the blush more natural, softening its color.

    Lips

Bella's lips are slightly touched by an almost colorless gloss. No pink or red! Just a slightly colored gloss with a metallic effect. First, you can outline the contour of your lips with a flesh-pink pencil and after a few minutes apply gloss. The same effect will be created by hygienic lipstick if you apply it in a thick layer and then blot it with a napkin.

    Bella's image in development

Bella's wedding makeup is less restrained, her eyes are emphasized to a greater extent, and a gray tint is added to the brown-beige palette of shadows. The blush becomes a little brighter and the lips have a warm peach color.

Bella's vampire look will require more drastic changes in makeup. Colors become richer and brighter. You can add a purple tint to the shadows to maintain the “vampirism” of your makeup. A slightly bronzed complexion, a bolder color of blush and eye shadow, and blood-red lips will complete the look of a vamp. Unlike the natural look of young Bella, this makeup can add years.

Of the images of Bella Swan, created by makeup artists of the Twilight saga, all are good. Each of them can be used for a different age, or simply change depending on the mood and situation. The older you get, the more natural your makeup should be - this is a truth familiar to every woman. Correctly applied cosmetics mean self-confidence and the ability to look fresher and younger.
